Douglas Bowling Club - 2012

Big Thank You's to both SISIS/Dennis and The Isle of Man Farmers. Together they have put together a great programme to help get Douglas Bowling Club back to being one of the best greens on the Island. Already the Dennis Verticutter is having a brilliant effect on the green.

What a difference 12 months make...
Great inroads have been made during the winter period.
We hope you'll all be pleasantly surprised when you turn up for your first roll. Ian and his band of merry helpers have whipped the green into shape and it is probably looking the best it has for a few years.
We now have handrails back in the corners with advertising displayed by our various sponsors. This will offset some of the costs of looking after the green and the repayments on the new mower. Thanks has to go to the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure for taking onboard our concerns about the green and allowing us to fulfill our stewardship of this proud Club as it should be. The premier bowling club on the Island.
It will be all hands to the pumps this year in readiness for 2013 (our 125th Anniversary). If you think you have some novel ideas for this event please make sure you let one of the Committee know. We already have a sack full of ideas but who's to say that your suggestion isn't the one that knocks everything into a cocked hat?
We all have a responsibility to get the Villa back to where it once belonged. Visitors used to step off the boat and make the Villa their target for the Thursday. It was a feather in your cap to have been involved at the Villa on the Thursday and especially the Friday.

The teams this year are looking as though they are going to be over-subscribed so competition for places is going to be fierce. What are your thoughts on having more Club competitions? For those who are unfortunately not going to be getting regular league bowling it is going to one way of playing regularly and at a decent standard. Having said that.... If everything goes well this season and we manage to get our B Team into the 2nd Division then it will give us the opportunity to start a 3rd Team and get more members playing regular league matches. Mull it over.... Have a cuppa and a good think.

Must make a few thank you's...

David Higgins for kindly allowing us to use his software to update our Team results every week.
Doug McFarlane for kindly doing the donkey work on putting together a 'History of Douglas Bowling Club' booklet/CD. Should be ready for our Anniversary so don't forget to get hold of one for posterity. (And. To help balance the books with the new Lawnmower) :-)
Jack Lee and Arnie Withers for loaning the Villa vital equipment for maintaining the green.

                            Cheers Folks!!.

We also hope that all members will make a big effort this year to attend the Club competitions and to offer any help during the busy Festival periods.

OK..... That's ya lot...

Enjoy the facilities at the Villa
Enjoy the company at the Villa
Enjoy your bowling during 2012

Good Luck.
